Get Rid of Toenail Fungus Quickly and Effectively
Toenail fungus is a condition that should be treated as soon as you notice it because it can worsen over time. When left untreated, it can lead to foot pain, ingrown toenails and cracked nails. It also looks more unsightly as it progresses. Toenail fungus may spread to your fingernails or skin, which is another reason you’ll need to treat it quickly.
The sooner you treat toenail fungus, the faster you could get rid of it. Some of the solutions for tackling toenail fungus include medical-style pedicures, laser fungal nail treatments, good foot hygiene and topical nail lacquer. We recommend using more than one technique for better results.
Although topical creams work to get rid of toenail fungus, it’s not an immediate solution for improving the appearance of your nails. If you want to be able to wear open-toed shoes or show your bare feet, you should get a medical-style pedicure. What’s offered in this type of treatment depends on where you get one done, but a medical-style pedicure typically includes:
- Shaping of the toenails
- Thinning of toenails that have been thickened from fungus
- Removal of calluses and corns
- Foot cream application
- Anti-fungal polish application
Our Complete Foot Spa Care package includes all of the above and more. We’ll give you an Eco-Fin Paraffin bath and incorporate aromatherapy into your session. This medical-style pedicure package is suitable for cases of toenail fungus that have seriously damaged your nails.
Laser Fungal Nail Treatment
Lasers can be used to get rid of the fungus in your nails. In only four 24-minute treatments at our clinic, you may be able to have the fungus thoroughly eliminated. You should have all of the toes treated to ensure that you eliminate all of the fungus. The fungus could have spread to another toenail, but it may not show visible signs yet.
To get rid of toenail fungus, we use the Lunula Laser by Erchonia, which the FDA has approved for toenail fungus treatments. As a dual-diode laser, the Lunula Laser uses two different wavelengths in treating your toenails. It uses the 405 nm wavelength that has anti-fungal effects and the 635 nm wavelength that encourages healthy regenerative outcomes. This laser fungal nail treatment doesn’t hurt or cause uncomfortable heat. It permeates through the nail into the fungal cells to deactivate them and prevent them from reproducing.
Good Foot Hygiene
Knowing how to take care of your feet can help prevent fungal infections and other foot-related problems. Some types of medical conditions like diabetes make it more imperative that you maintain good foot hygiene since they put you at greater risk of foot infections. To take care of your feet, you should wash them and fully dry them, change your socks and inspect your feet on a daily basis. Make sure to clean in between your toes and use a nail brush while in the shower.
Don’t wear the same shoes two days in a row. This gives them time to fully dry out after use. If your feet sweat a lot, wear socks that have moisture-wicking properties to minimize the chances of developing nail fungus. Walking barefoot, especially in public places, also puts you at greater risk of catching nail fungus, so it’s best to avoid walking without shoes whenever possible. If you do walk barefoot, whether outside or inside, be sure to thoroughly wash and dry your feet afterward.
You should cut your toenails every week to prevent them from getting long. This is because they are at higher risk of catching fungus as they grow. Additionally, injuries to the nails make it easier for fungus to get inside and grow, and your toenails are more susceptible to injury when they are long. The correct way to clip toenails is straight across. Then, file the sharp edges when you’re done. You should regularly clean and sanitize your nail clippers with rubbing alcohol as well.
Topical Nail Lacquer
A topical nail lacquer, commonly prescribed by a doctor, goes over your nail like nail polish. Topical nail lacquers can be used for mild to moderate cases of toenail fungus. Your doctor may ask you to use a nail lacquer in addition to other treatment methods to cure your toenail fungus issues.
It’s important to note that this type of fungus is known for being stubborn, and it’s not uncommon for people to have a recurrence of the fungus after they thought they got rid of it. This is why long treatment periods are advised. You may have to apply a topical nail lacquer two times a day for 48 weeks.
